January is a great time to do a little honey harvesting. If you’re in an area where your bees are getting Prickly Box you’ll need to get it out of the frames and into jars before it candies and gets hard to flow. After the longest day brood laying generally starts to slow down so make sure you have plenty of bees on frames and remove excess boxes unless you’re on a honey flow.. Don’t forget to leave enough stores for your bees and only remove excess honey. Keep an eye out for chalk brood spores and manage any infestation. Check and do a match stick test on any sunken cells which may hold AFB or EFB.
